Land Of Forgetfulness: Young Americans Ignorant About What July 4th Represents (Video)
“Take care lest you forget the LORD your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today” -Deut. 8:11
“But my people have forgotten me; they make offerings to false gods” -Jer. 18:15a
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” -Hosea 4:6

All of these Scriptures remind us to remember God and his law, but Scripture goes on to point out that we teach our children to do so.
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One. And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts. And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates. And when the LORD your God brings you into the land He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, that He would give you—a land with great and splendid cities that you did not build, with houses full of every good thing with which you did not fill them, with wells that you did not dig, and with vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant—and when you eat and are satisfied, be careful not to forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.” Deuteronomy 6:4-10
Additionally, God commands that we tell of his wonderful deeds throughout history, including our own in Psalm 78.
Give ear, O my people, to my instruction; listen to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the beginning,
that we have heard and known and our fathers have relayed to us.
We will not hide them from their children, but will declare to the next generation
the praises of the LORD and His might, and the wonders He has performed.
For He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel,
which He commanded our fathers to teach to their children,
that the coming generation would know them—even children yet to be born—
to arise and tell their own children that they should put their confidence in God,
not forgetting His works, but keeping His commandments.
Then they will not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation,
whose heart was not loyal, whose spirit was not faithful to God.
Sadly, in a land that was first blessed so much by our Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ, many have forgotten to teach their children about the wonderful works of God from the beginning.
The latest evidence of this is in a video produced by Campus Reform in which there seems to be a complete lack of knowledge of our country’s history and what July 4th means.
Take a look.
Most of the young men and women here didn’t know what the Declaration of Independence had to do with July 4th.
Some guessed that we gained our independence after the War of Northern Aggression (indoctrinated people call it The Civil War), while others thought it was after World War I or II.
Some rightly pointed out that “real” history is not being taught in public schools, and they are correct, which is why we promote mom and dad teaching their kids.
I just know that teachers do not want to teach it,” one student claimed, with another ironically chiming in that“Everyone should learn about our history.”
“America was built off of slavery,” one respondent said when asked to justify why she believes the country is racist.
Another respondent said President Trump is proof that the country is racist, and commented “Our country most definitely has a bad legacy.”
This is not a laughing matter. This is serious, deadly serious.
While people call on God to “bless America,” listen to the Psalmist on how God responds to a land of forgetfulness.
Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah. Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction? Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? -Psalm 88:10-12
Repentance begins with us, Christians, and that repentance must bear fruit that reminds ourselves and our children of what God has done.
