THE SUNSHINE STATE SEES MORE CLINICS CLOSE

Gainesville, FL — Florida has already seen two important closures this year in the Sunshine State’s shrinking abortion industry.

Yet another Planned Parenthood referral clinic has shut down operations. The Gainesville location notified the public that its last day of scheduling patient appointments was June 26, 2026.

Over the last year or so, the abortion giant has seen record-breaking closures amidst the loss of federal tax funding, numerous lawsuits, and reports of financial malfeasance and abusive work conditions made public by its own employees.

According to Operation Rescue’s 2025 Annual Survey, Planned Parenthood actually accounted for 67% of total clinic closures last year. Since the start of 2026, ten additional Planned Parenthood locations, including Gainesville, have also closed their doors.

Also in 2025, the regions of Planned Parenthood of South, East and North Florida and Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida merged to create one consolidated region: Planned Parenthood of Florida. Actions like this often serve as a sign that the abortion giant is struggling to gain revenue and likely must consolidate offices to make up for lost profits. In 2019-2020, for example, Planned Parenthood also merged five New York affiliates in an attempt to strengthen the region.

It is also worth noting that Planned Parenthood is currently unable to offer abortions in 14 states, or about 28% of the United States. Of those 14, four states have zero Planned Parenthood locations in operation.

But Planned Parenthood isn’t the only abortion business losing ground in Florida. All Women’s Health, another abortion chain, has also closed its Sarasota location, with its website now directing patients to its Clearwater office for services. A recent call confirmed that the Sarasota location is now permanently closed.

In 2023, this clinic committed medical abortions up to 10 weeks and surgical abortions up to 12 weeks, both starting at $655. In 2024, the six-week ban took effect, protecting babies in the womb once there was a detectable heartbeat.

According to Operation Rescue’s annual surveys, that same year, AWHC also upped the price of surgical abortions to $755, likely trying to make up for the profits they used to enjoy from committing later abortions. By 2025, the clinic seemed to eliminate surgical abortions altogether and focus on medical only, yet another likely attempt to replace lost profits. Medical abortions take less time and staff, with many clinics herding women into one big room to hand out the first regimen of abortion pills.

Now, just two years after the six-week ban took effect, the Sarasota location has been forced to close altogether.

“The closing of these clinics on the heels of establishing stronger protections for children in the womb gives credence to our efforts to end abortion not only in the state of Florida but across the country as well,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

In 2021, there were 57 abortion clinics operating in Florida. With the closure of the Sarasota location, the number of operating abortion clinics has fallen to 47—an 18% decrease over the past five years.

Operation Rescue COO Sarah Neely believes every closure represents meaningful progress. As she reminded Floridians earlier this year when speaking at the Florida March for the Preborn, “That might seem like a small number, but small numbers add up over time. Lives are saved every time a clinic closes its doors.”

While efforts to end abortion are far from complete, each clinic that ceases operation represents one less location where abortion services can be performed and demonstrates just how much pro-life advocacy is making a difference.

“We’re encouraged by every victory, but we know there’s still much work to be done,” Newman adds. “These closures remind us that faithful, consistent efforts can produce lasting change.”
