Ted Cruz on Adultery Scandal: “It’s Garbage”

I’ve held off for a couple of days over the recent, yet apparently held back for weeks, allegations of Ted Cruz committing adultery with numerous women while married to his wife Heidi. I was disturbed by the allegations, and yes, I’m aware that the National Enquirer has been right about other adultery committing politicians like John Edwards, Jesse Jackson, Gary Hart and others. Yet, Ted Cruz has come out and said all of it is “garbage.”

Cruz posted to his Facebook page:

I want to be crystal clear: these attacks are garbage. For Donald J. Trump to enlist his friends at the National Enquirer and his political henchmen to do his bidding shows you that there is no low Donald won’t go.

These smears are completely false, they’re offensive to Heidi and me, they’re offensive to our daughters, and they’re offensive to everyone Donald continues to personally attack.

Donald Trump’s consistently disgraceful behavior is beneath the office we are seeking and we are not going to follow.

Now, knowing what we know of past politicians, we know they are prone to lie, especially if it will protect their seat of power. Remember, Bill Clinton shook his finger in the American people’s faces and declared that the claims of his adultery with Monica Lewinski were lies and Hillary backed him up saying that it was all a part of a “vast right wing conspiracy.” Still, Cruz assumes that Trump is behind the National Enquirer piece without any evidence of his claims, merely innuendo. Yet, this doesn’t necessarily mean he’s lying concerning the allegations.

However, already, we have seen several of the women who have been identified in the National Enquirer piece come out and said that the story is completely bogus, at least concerning them.

Today, I came across a story that alleges three more women were involved, but I want to stress that these are allegations, not facts. The Bible tells us that there should be two or three witness to confirm the matter (Deut. 17:6; 19:15; Matt. 18:16, 20; 2 Cor. 13:1; 1 Tim. 5:19; Heb. 10:28). So, on that note, until there is actual claims from women and they confirm the story, we should treat it as only allegations, not fact. Reports from various outlets are not witnesses people.

In fact, by not checking sources and validating what was going on, The Washington Times has fired Drew Johnson over this Tweet:

Breitbart had the story, along with video long before the National Enquirer. I’m not even sure that when Donald Trump spoke about spilling the beans on Heidi Cruz he was referencing the National Enquirer story or that childish picture he tweeted out. I think it more concerning of what Mrs. Cruz was involved in during her time in the Council on Foreign Relations, her work with NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and the efforts she put forth in trade with China, among other things.

Jeff Dunetz provides some of his thoughts on these allegations, and I think them worthy of your consideration.

Breitbart had the story, along with video long before the National Enquirer.

The Conservative Treehouse, in its article on the subject of Ted Cruz and the National Enquirer allegations, added a section that should be considered in all of this as far as understanding the real issue in all of this and that is that Cruz and his wife were pursuing careers apart from each other, which the Scriptures also warn about.

Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 1 Cor. 7:5

A married couple cannot be sexually intimate when they are hundreds of miles away from one another for months. It strains the marriage and opens them both up for sexual temptation. This “separation,” if you will did occur in the Cruz marriage. The Washington Post reported:

They’d met on the 2000 George W. Bush campaign, when they worked three cubicles apart, and in the years since, they’d gone from an apartment in Northern Virginia to a 19th-floor condo in Houston to a series of three-star hotels in early-primary states. Heidi had taken an unpaid leave from her lucrative job at Goldman Sachs to join Ted on the trail.

But in the earliest days of their marriage, they weren’t always together. At a time when Ted Cruz felt unsatisfied with his track in Washington, he made a decision to take a high-profile job in Austin — as Texas’s solicitor general — that provided a testing ground for his conservative arguments but also forced him to move 1,500 miles from Heidi, who continued working at the Treasury Department in Washington.

The job ultimately helped to launch Ted Cruz’s political career. It also nearly backfired: He and Heidi weathered several years of strained, long-distance commuting. And when Heidi finally moved to Texas, the strain only grew. She fell into a depression, what Cruz calls the couple’s “difficult chapter.”

Cruz, now 45, looks back on that decision 13 years ago to leave Washington as an essential part of his rise as a top-tier Republican presidential candidate. The choice bore the Cruz hallmarks: ambition, a willingness to take major risks and confidence that he could pull it off. In an interview with The Washington Post, Cruz also said that the move also shows how he and Heidi work in tandem. They both held aspirations for their careers, and they were willing to live apart to chase their goals.

Again, it doesn’t mean that Ted committed adultery on his wife. So, keep that in mind. However, if you think a man’s adulteries are none of the people’s business, consider that this is one of the prime means used to blackmail leaders and politicians. Consider that it is also considered serious business among our military members as well for the very same reason.

There are a lot of things I could say about a wife and mother following Titus 2’s explicit commands regarding sound doctrine and her role in the family. Most Christians today don’t even consider that when Christian wives and mothers pursue careers outside the home, the apostle Paul said that they give cause for unbelievers to “blaspheme” or “dishonor” the Word of God because every unbeliever can read the explicit command to them found in Titus 2:4-5. It’s why I encourage wives and mother to do this not only for their own good and protection, but also to honor God and His Word.

So, until there is verifiable evidence of adultery on the part of Ted Cruz, this issue should be considered a non-issue. Though I don’t support either Ted Cruz or Donald Trump (in fact, I don’t trust either of them), the fact of the matter is that we know Donald Trump has engaged in multiple adulteries and fornications in the past. We don’t know that for sure about Senator Cruz. Should evidence come forward that the allegations are true, it will only be another reason why I don’t support Mr. Cruz in the race for the White House. However, let’s give the man the benefit of the doubt since all there have been is allegations, not evidence. I’ll be the first to call him out should I get evidence.

UPDATE: Anyone who has verifiable evidence that the allegations are true, including “The Thing” (the alleged video of Cruz and a mistress), feel free to email it to me. Thank you.
